The Big Batch of Blades

This was my biggest, most recent batch of knives and it taught me a lot about making knives in a one man assembly line kind of process. This is done by taking all the knives through a step before moving on top the next, meaning I forged and cold forge all of them together before shaping them, and from there shape and straighten them all together before moving on to the heat treat. Having to do the same step several times before moving on to the next really makes sure you're on your A game all the time. This especially helps a lot in heat treating, because if you mess up the first, you most likely won't make that same mistake on the next, and this kind of quick fixing is true for all the steps. It ultimately gives you really high quality knives all the time while also letting you quickly improve and learn a skill by letting you fix your mistakes on the next knife. Okay, enough about that, let's get into talking about these knives (the other pictures are below). Each of these each based off of two different designs. The thinner blade with a more centered point I call the Herring, and the larger recurve blade with a higher point is the Tiger Shark. All of my neck knife and utility knife designs will be named off of fish that they remind me of, since as a kid and even now I'm absolutely fascinated with aquatic creatures. The ones with two pins are simply smaller Tiger Sharks and Herrings. Each of these knives also has one of two of my custom hammered surface designs, which I do by cutting up a hammer face and hitting the steel with it after it has been annealed and cold forged. The one with little squares running down the sides is a recent one I made, and the more random and angular pattern is the original one I made. I do plan on making many different types of these hammered patterns, such as one that looks like fish scales or even ocean waves. These all have my new maker's mark of them, and are the first to have it. More about the maker's mark in the next post. Until then! -Rebel
