A Little Imagination Goes a Long Way

A mentor and friend of mine whom I show a lot of my work to bought me a bunch of wrenches and told me to make knives out of them! Of the many wrenches he gave to me, I picked the tiniest one and thought "How in the world do you make a knife out of this tiny little thing?" The head of it reminded me of a bottle opener so that's what I decided to turn it into. I wanted to make it small enough to keep as a keychain while keeping the shape and letters on it as pristine as possible. This led me to forging it into a C shape and then shaping the head with a Dremel. Once I got that done, I hand sanded it so it is nice and smooth to the touch, while the letters are rough. It was then heated and air cooled to give it that black, rust resistant covering so I don't have to worry about rust. The end product was this cool little bottle opener that I love using, since it surprises people haha. I have a few other tiny wrenches, so I'll be making a few more of these for sure!
